Shoreditch – we’ve missed you! It’s been a short while, but we’re back and better than ever (if we do say so ourselves). Shoreditch is one of those areas that has so much going on – the markets and ‘Curry Mile’ of Brick Lane, tons of street art, a great range of shopping, plus some amazing places to fill your belly and whet your whistle. Stopping by to visit our new boutique on Brushfield Street? Make a day of it! We’ve put together an area guide to our favourite haunts…
Alarm clock didn’t do its job properly? Start your day off at Allpress Espresso’s Redchurch Street outpost (and perhaps some breakfast at Franzè & Evans). Once you’ve got some fuel, Redchurch Street has some fantastic independent stores to explore. We love Labour and Wait for their utilitarian approach to household goods (and their beautiful emerald-tiled exterior). Just down the road you can find a modern and simplistic edit of unisex clothing and accessories at Modern Society, plus some great coffee table books and hard-to-find magazines. Head on over to Shoreditch High Street and pop into AIDA afterwards to stock up on Veja sneakers and Kings of Indigo denim.
Obsessed with interior design and homewares like we are? Then you need to visit Goodhood on Curtain Road. In their basement, you’ll find minimalistic scandi-style furniture and accessories by HAY and Ferm Living, handmade earthenware by Broste, and grooming products from brands such as Aesop and Grown Alchemist.
A few streets over, on Charlotte Road, you’ll find a hidden gem – the only physical location where you can find family-run leather accessories brand Alfie Douglas. Each piece is handcrafted at traditional workbenches in small batches using skills that have been passed down through generations of the same family. Even the rivets, which are specially made, are hand-hammered. Reminds us of our frames…and speaking of frames, once you’ve finished trawling the streets of Shoreditch come and see us at Old Spitalfields Market, where our stylists will be on hand to help you find the perfect pair of frames.
After you’ve picked out your new BNs, head next door to Blixen for an aperitif. Housed in a former bank and decorated in the style of European grand cafes, it will be a welcome retreat from the busy streets outside. They have a solid cocktail menu (we recommend the Anytime Spritz – we agree that a spritz is for any time of day, and it tastes damn delicious). Pro tip: ask for a seat in their jungle-feel conservatory. The food tastes as good as the place looks, but if you’re after a more comfort-food vibe then head across the market to Poppie’s Fish and Chips.
We look forward to welcoming in store and sharing more of our local tips and hidden treasures!
See you soon,
The Old Spitalfields Market team
